Shot Myself ...
entirely by accident, i asure you all, but i did indeed shoot myself...
working on my car...

... replacing the lower right front ball joint...
the original from the factory is held in place by 3 rivets, those rivets need to be removed to remove the old ball joint... after having cut the heads off of the rivets, we tried to press the rivet cores out with a large socket, a C-clamp, and a bolt. the socket was to provide a place for the rivet to move to while still appying pressure to that side, the bolt was to apply pressure only to the rivet on the other side, and the C-clamp to apply the pressure...
the bolt slipped...
the bolt struck the eyeball and left a nice gouge in it, and severely bruised the eyelid, and the upper and lower portions of the eye socket...
according to the doctor: the bolt missed the cornea by less than a millimeter... a millimeter lower and i would have been permanently blind in that eye...
as it stands now, i have a black eye and a gouge that is healing nicely... drawbacks include that the painkillers i was on for the weekend had me loopy... so i was unable to drive up north to see my wife for the weekend like i normally do... going to see her was the whole point of replacing the balljoint myself friday night rather than waiting until tuesday when i could have someone else do it for me...
i took a few pics of it which i am including here... i can't say how well the damage shows up and i do know that the gouge is not visible, but you are welcome to look for yourself and keep in mind that, to me at least, it looks much worse in my mirror than in my pics, but i could not get quite the image on my cameraphone that the mirror is able to show me...
